Does Shellac help nails grow?

Short answer, no. Shellac or gel manicures do not help nails grow. Your nails should be at the length that you want them prior to applying a gel manicure.

Is Shellac bad for my nails?

Shellac is a blend between gel and traditional nail polish. While it doesn’t strengthen the nail itself, it is a stronger product compared to traditional nail polish. So it will have similar effects to your nails as a regular nail polish. Continued nail polish use can cause your nails to turn yellow, chip, or peel. It’s a good idea to give your nails a break from all nail polish periodically, unless you’re using polish that contains vitamins and hydrating oils.

How long does Shellac last?

A shellac manicure can last up to a month. The gel gives the polish strength so it can hold up longer. On average, shellac manicures last 14 days.

At-home Nail Care

While shellac manicures are a great option for those who enjoy a longer-lasting manicure, it’s important to practice at-home nail care, as well. For example, regular use of sunscreen on your hands is recommended to prevent age spots. This is especially recommended before getting a shellac manicure as UV/LED lamps are used to apply gel manicures. Further, using cuticle oil 1-2 times per day will strengthen nail beds and keep your nails healthy beneath the polish. Thus, allowing for a better looking manicure.
